How it all started…
Grandma Maisie’s house
I was nine years old when I first learned to crochet at Grandma’s house during the summer. She taught me the basics of chain stitch and single crochet. It helped passed the time when I was watching soap operas (I wanted to name my first child Hope because I was such a Days of Our Lives fan!) or after reading my fill of National Enquirer (is it still being published?). After I was old enough to be on my own during the summer, I stopped going to Grandma’s other than the infrequent visit and I stopped crocheting…
Fast forward >>> 35 years and I started to crochet again! It was the height of the lockdown and I bought some yarn. I ended up making a loaf cat (crochet) and mittens (knit loom).
I was hooked! This time it stayed and I’ve been curating / printing / saving / screenshotting all these great ideas and content from the crochet and knit community. I wanted to start this blog to share my experience and tips that I have learned throughout my crochet journey.
Although I from a small town in rural midwest, I have been living in big cities since college and therefore merged Crochet + City to create Crochetocity!
I’ve started to make products for family and friends and was told “You should try to sell these!”. So I started this site and will also be signing up for local markets to help promote my small business.
Thanks for reading this and I hope you can find some of the information useful as you branch out on your crochet journey ( or just come around and buy my crochet products!).
